Arnaud RIVIEREN

R

ivieren is a metaphysical artist. It is impossible to approach his work without sensing that it is speaking to the audience in both physical and spiritual terms. Over the years, Rivieren has developed a decidedly minimalist style as he experimented with stainless steel recycled from the industrial scrap yards of the UAE.

Arnaud Rivieren’s work belongs to today’s world dominated by new technologies. This Belgian-born artist, described as an expert in spatial & dynamic sciences, lives and works in Dubai since 2002. It’s in this highly industrialized Emirate that he explores sculpture. Self-taught, Rivieren installed his studio in a scrap-yard where, avoiding the use of new materials, he essentially works hard metals – mainly steel and aluminum – demanding strong physical work along patience and precision. From scrap surge trees, bamboos (his «Zhu» installation was set-up at the Shanghai 2010 Universal Exhibition), strange and diverse shapes, often tainted with a touch of irony or humor.
